- Sally Fairfax
 |
Sally was born in Hull in 1976, since when she has hardly stopped talking, apart from those times when she gets interrupted.
She discovered her powerful voice at a young age, when a family friend introduced her to the echo in the kitchen. After that, she frequently sang along to Billie Holiday, Nina Simone and Ella Fitzgerald and knew just about all the Beatles songs by heart. After her performance in a school production of Robin Hood (Sally played a male peasant), a member of the audience suggested that her voice was worth training. So from the age of 10 she received classical voice training from Maureen Hunter in Hull and went on to join the National Youth Choir of Great Britain at 14. |
|
| After completing 2 World Tours with the choir, she left at 21, when she could no longer be described as “youth”. The role of lead singer for Leeds University Dance Band gave her a good platform for singing sultry jazz in gownless evening straps. She now continues to sing jazz in Yorkshire and occasionally in France with smaller ensembles. |
Her on-air partnership with Mike on BBC Radio York began in February 2001, when the station's editor decided that she could handle his humour and his rants early on Saturday mornings. |

| Sally's CV is nothing if not varied. She's so far worked as a tour guide in Europe, as a teacher of French and other subjects, as a car seller and as a music project manager. She's now studying for a postgraduate diploma in radio and TV journalism at Trinity & All Saints College in Leeds. |

Sally speaks French and Italian and her English is coming along nicely. She's travelled widely but her mental list of “must go” places is still long. Unlucky with cars, she had to scrap her latest after losing the keys. She is however looking forward to adventures soon in a VW Camper.
Likes: wine, food, chocolate, singing, talking, dancing, France, Italy, films. Doesn't like: jelly babies. |
